TAMMIE’S RESPONSE: Dear friend, The Word of God is very clear that it is not right to become “unevenly yoked with unbelievers.” Your heart can easily deceive you into thinking it can all work out, but it cannot. I am in daily communication with people who have tried to make it work, but they are all so miserable. It is true that I was planning to marry a Baptist man — trying to convince myself that we could make it work. Although Jehovah’s Witness discourage marrying outside their religion, it is not usually punishable by disfellowshipping. She would simply be considered a weak Jehovah’s Witness if she married you. However, this is not your problem. Your problem is so much bigger than that. Marrying someone who does not believe in the God that you believe in is a serious mistake. She has convinced you that she does believe in God. I know because I had convinced my boyfriend too. I knew all the right words to say so that he would think that my beliefs were not so different than his, but this is a total and complete lie. Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in the same Jesus that you and I believe in. They think Jesus is actually Michael the Archangel and this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many more crazy doctrines like these that they embrace. If you hope to have any kind of a happy married life then you must NOT marry this lady. Get into the Word of God and obey what it tells you. Pray for wisdom and understanding. Bring your heart’s desires and lay them on God’s altar. He will bless you and help you. If you get serious about your relationship with the Lord then He may be able to use you to help this lady.
